Nursing Education is an Added Advantage on Becoming a Medical Transcriptionist

Nowadays, there are lots of nursing graduates who were looking for jobs in the hospital and pursue their nursing career. Some of them have luckily landed on the job of their dreams but some have not. Well, it’s not that they’re not lucky enough to achieve the job that they wanted in the medical field especially working in a hospital setting.

It is rather there are lots of opportunities for nurses and maybe they can’t still find the right one yet because they’re too frustrated to find ways to work in a hospital as a nurse. And yes, it can be so damn frustrating at first considering what you’d been throughout the years that you studied, passing the licensure exams, attending some seminars and get certifications for specialized nursing care.

And if you think that all of your hardships will come into nothing because you’re not practicing in a hospital – you’re totally wrong. Because in fact, there are lots of opportunities for nurses not only in the hospital but into clinics, industrial, office based, schools, BPO industry, online or even at the comfort of your own home.

We all know that healthcare career is lucrative and challenging. Healthcare industry is growing just a fast pace and in coming years one of the most expected job opportunities that will come to rise is medical transcription.

And as nurses, it is an open door for us to practice the knowledge that we learned from schools and from our experiences in other settings that will contribute to the healthcare community.

Being a nurse a is multifunctional, where in it enables you to work in a lot of institutions that perhaps enable you further to enhance your knowledge and experience in different fields. With that being said, seems to be the edge for nurses to also become a medical transcriptionist.

Medical Terminology Expertise

There are advantages for nurses to be in a medical transcription field. First, is the educational background. It will be a lot easier for nurses to be a medical transcriptionist because they’re more familiar with medical terms, from anatomy to pathophysiology of diseases, treatment and diagnostic procedures and pharmacological drugs and just like nurses, being a medical transcriptionist also requires to carry out doctor’s order but in the different perspective.

Medical Records Understanding

Medical transcription deals more on documentation which also nurses do for evaluation and treatment plan for the patients and the only difference is that nurses collaborate with the physicians in giving actual care and proper intervention through holistic approach when it comes to caring for their patients.

On the other hand, medical transcriptionists interpret the information such as analysis, progress notes, patient’s history and letters for medical records thru transcribing as dictated by the healthcare professionals or physicians.

Healthcare Procedure Familiarity

Another advantage of nurses in medical transcription is their experience in a healthcare setting because they already know the procedures and daily routines that physicians do in giving proper treatment and care for each patient that they handle and when it comes to legal issues, nurses also have knowledge on some legal matters that can occur in healthcare professionals and therefore they’re more aware of the importance of providing an accurate and reliable medical documentation as this may use for future reference of the physicians.

Being a nurse or a healthcare professional is not really a requirement to become a medical transcriptionist but it can also be an advantage.

There were many training institutions and schools that offer medical transcription courses which will be significant so that one must also know not only about medical terms but also guidelines in medical transcribing that also includes proper use of grammar, punctuations, formatting, and style in order to make a reliable medical record.
