Accurate Medical Transcription Is Crucial

Medical transcriptions are written scripts of dictated information from specialists, in this case, doctors. It is very crucial for a medical transcriptionist to capture every meaning and word accurately from the voice dictation because any errors whether grammatical, typographical or in spelling can mean a lot to the person who will be reading the transcription.

For example, if a doctor narrates that a fracture was noted on the right radius, the transcriptionist should be able to capture the complete and concise meaning of the dictation.

In the rare occasion, if the medical transcriptionist would have transcribed it to read as “A structure was noted on the right radio”. That statement would give a whole different meaning to the dictated sentence. Or if one would transcribe it as “ A fracture was noted on the left radius.”

The recipient of the report will find it difficult to understand the statement. If the transcription was used for a radiologic dictation prior to surgery, the client will end up being operated on the left arm instead of the right arm where the fracture was. This example may be too exaggerated to know but it could happen.

Transcription accuracy in transcribing medical dictations is very crucial because these are legal documents and any errors in the interpretation of the transcriber can lead to potential lawsuits for the person dictating the piece and the person receiving the dictation.

A medical transcription should be an ability to give an accurate, complete and comprehensible report in such a way as if the speaker had directly spoken to the recipient.
