Some Medical Terms Must Know



Dix-Hallpike Test – Also called Nylen-Barany test is a diagnostic maneuver used to identify benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).

Epley maneuver (or Epley’s exercises) – a maneuver used to treat benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).

Child-Pugh classification (or Child-Turcotte-Pugh score) – used to assess the prognosis of chronic liver disease, mainly cirrhosis.

MELD score (Model for End-Stage Liver Disease) – a scoring system for assessing the severity of the chronic liver disease.

Trisomy 21 (commonly called Down syndrome) – a chromosomal disorder caused by the presence of all or part of an extra 21st chromosome.

Reparil (Aescin) – coated tablets or gel – inhibit edema and inflammation, reduce swelling.
