Welcome to The Transcriptionists’ Profiles, a series of interviews with people who are working as transcriptionists. My name is Archie, the author/administrator of Transcriptionist Hub. In this article, I will feature my interview with Virgilio Jose Cabanlet.

Welcome, Virgilio to the interview. Thank you for taking the interest of this opportunity.
Archie: To start, can you please tell me your current designation or level as a transcriptionist? (e.g. senior MT)? What is your location? Where are you presently connected?
Virgilio: I have worked in a transcription company before, however, it was indirect since I am a home-based transcriptionist. However, I was able to perform very well during my stint with the company that I transcribed for. I type 60-61 words per minute, and I am used to using the program Express Scribe.
Archie: How long have you been working as a transcriptionist? How did you start in this profession? What are the factors that prompted you to pursue a career in this field?
Virgilio: I have been a home-based transcriptionist for 5 months total. I started this profession upon hearing about it from my friend. I took the opportunity because I am a fast at typing and I have very good English comprehension. So I felt it was a fit for me.
Archie: Which do you prefer: to work home based or in an office setting? Please explain briefly
Virgilio: I would like to work home based. For the reason that, I will be able to manage my time and manage my schedule more with my other activities, like household chores and attending meetings with my volunteer organization.
Archie: Which among these transcription work most appeal to your interest: Medical, General (Business, podcasts, interviews), or Legal Transcription.
Virgilio: General and Legal, since I am in a family of lawyers.
Archie: What, for you, is the most important characteristic or quality to become an effective and productive transcriptionist?
Virgilio: To become an effective and productive transcriptionist, one must be able to have discipline, concentration, and perseverance to be able to accomplish and finish on deadlines and commitments made.
Archie: Being a transcriptionist, what do you think is the best advice you can give to people who are interested to enter this field?
Virgilio: You must learn to be disciplined and stick to the deadlines and commitments.
Archie: Thank you for your time.
