audio transcriptionists

Majority of people when asked their understanding of the work of an audio transcriptionist would say that you need to be a fast typist. This is true to many people. I once had an interview with an audio transcriptionist who was working home based at that time, and he was a fast typist. At that time, he had a one year experience as a general transcriptionist and 4 months experience as a legal transcriptionist. He was an editor with his previous work. He had been working as a home-based transcriptionist for one year.

Since he can type fast which was around 70-85 words per minute, he immediately thought of working as transcriptionist. He then looked for jobs online as a home-based transcriptionist. At first it was difficult for him since he had no formal training, but after a month he started to love this kind of profession. The factor that prompted him to pursue this career was that he can work at home, and he didn’t need to go to office which left him the hassle of commuting.

He preferred to work home based because he could always be with his family, and he could earn more income. The audio transcription work most appealing to him is general transcription.

When asked what, for him, is the most important characteristic or quality to become an effective and productive transcriptionist. He replied, “I think the most important characteristic or quality to become an effective and productive transcriptionist is being meticulous to details. The advice that he can give to people who are interested in this career was that they should be able to type at least 50 words per minute, able to comprehend English language in different accents, and also be patient.
